The RPK-74M is a modernized version of the Soviet RPK light machine gun, designed for the 5.45x39mm ammunition. When creating it, the developers followed the principle of combining a new machine gun with a modernized rifle.

It has a longer and heavier barrel than the AK-74, a folding stock for compactness, and features a bipod for stability when firing from a prone position. The gun can be fed from either 45-round or 95-round drum magazines, and it can also use standard 30-round magazines from the AK-74. The RPK-74M is still in use by many countries and is highly regarded for its reliability and durability in combat situations. It is typically used as a squad automatic weapon role, providing suppressive fire and covering fire for infantry units.
