The Soviet-made AKM is one of the most recognizable short assault rifles from the Cold War era. The problem is that a regular AKM does look like a 70-year-old gun. Replacing the standard handguard, gas tube assembly and upper receiver with modified parts with a Picatinny rails, installing adapters with a AR-15 series-compatible collapsible stocks can only slightly modernize the look of this gun. However, users have always wanted to get something completely ‘new’, while keeping the good old AK reliability.
The real-life counterpart of this AKM rendition underwent a deep external overhaul with the Magpul Industries-made parts. The main parts of the external tuning of the AKM in this modification are a unique folding buttstock and a completely new handguard. Magpul named this furniture set "Zhukov". And our laser tag AKM model is based on the airsoft gun body with Magpul-inspired tuning replicas.
This furniture set has many solutions that are not typical for the AK series. The MAG585 stock folds to the right, although most other AK series stocks fold to the left. This allows the owner to mount a dovetail adapter on the untouched left side to install sighting devices or red-dot sights.
In addition, the buttstock is collapsible and expands lengthwise in 5 positions, allowing it to be adapted to a player of any height and arm length.
The butt-pad is made of rubber.
The optional sights on this AKM can be also mounted directly on the top of the receiver, which has its own rail interface system, allowing the player to mount red-dot sights at exactly the distance from the player’s face that is convenient for them.
The standard tuning also includes the new Magpul MOE AK grip, which is considered to be significantly more ergonomic compared to the default AKM pistol grip.
Despite the fact that we recommend this tagger exclusively for personal use, but not for a rental laser tag business, we consider this model to be quite reliable. All non-metallic parts of the tagger are made of damage-resistant weapon-grade plastic, and the body of the laser tag AKM is made of steel and light alloys.
This is one of those models, the reliability of which allowed us not only to arrange turning the gun on by setting its fire selector to “single fire” mode, but also to implement the switching between fire modes from single to full auto with the same lever.
To reload the rifle, the player must pull the charging handle like on a real AK.
As in most of our models, the speaker is installed in the magazine for greater volume and sound quality; there is also a socket for connecting a charger (li+ or Spider).
This laser tag AKM is equipped with a standard 2200 mAh lithium-ion battery, which will allow the player to use it up to 36 hours depending on the electronics generation, the use of Wi-Fi for statistics and such options as feedback.
The tagger also has an external optical system, in which Prism or Parallax optics can be installed. The Prism optics will have a wider beam and a range of up to 820 feet (250 meters) in ideal conditions. In difficult conditions, the range will be about 600 feet (about 185 meters), which is enough for most laser tag battles. When installing Parallax optics with a narrower beam, and therefore more difficult aiming, the range will increase to 1000 feet (about 300 meters).
